On June 4, Deputy Maritime Administrator Paul “Chip” Jaenichen was named Acting Maritime Administrator. He will serve in this role until the appointment and confirmation of a new Maritime Administrator. Acting Maritime Administrator Jaenichen has been with the U.S. Department of Transportation, Maritime Administration since July 2012 when he was appointed Deputy Maritime Administrator by President Obama. On Tuesday, February 12, 2014, Maritime TV’s Dave Gardy interviewed Mr. Jaenichen at MARAD headquarters in Washington. D.C. On February 5, the CUNARD liner Queen Elizabeth (2) will make its first ever port stop in Long Beach harbor, berthing adjacent to the Queen Mary as part of a celebratory event launching a new ship model gallery aboard the Queen Mary. The original Queen Elizabeth was the sister ship to Queen Mary. The QE2 will transport a model of its namesake to Long Beach, for later installation in the new Queen Mary new model gallery. The Queen Elizabeth 2 Captain will join in the model gallery dedication along with the Mayor and other dignitaries. Queen Mary will also be hosting a three-day Maritime Industry Business Summit, ending Feb 5. Summit attendees will join the VIP dedication.
