In this 40th interview in the series, Clay discusses how Team Vestas Wind was forced to abandon its boat when it hit a reef on the Cargados Carajos Shoals, Mauritius at night during the recent Volvo Ocean Race, after relying on electronic aids to navigation. Clay states that although ECDIS and other electronic aids to navigation are excellent, there remain issues with standardization of these systems, in addition to over-reliance on these systems by mariners who must also be wary of changing vessel traffic situations.
