Here is another interview in a Maritime TV video series featuring Clay Maitland, Managing Partner, International Registries, Inc., and Chairman of the Merchant Marine Policy Coalition (MMPC), entitled ‘Mondays with Maitland’. The program series addresses issues of the day throughout the international maritime industry. In this 38th interview in the series, Clay discusses the December 28th fire aboard the Italian-owned car ferry MS Norman Atlantic with 487 passengers aboard. Although more than 400 people were rescued, at least 13 people were known to have died in the incident while others remain missing. Clay again draws attention to his concern the that drills aboard large passenger vessels with many more passengers are inadequate and that simulation studies need to be done to establish protocol on mass evacuations at sea in adverse conditions.
