Products and services described on this Web site include classification of ships and certification and type approval of materials and equipment, certification of offshore structures, ISM/ISO certification, oil testing services, marine environmental management, vessel safety and operations audit, engineering and technical guidance, rapid response damage assessment,training seminars and courses, marine surveys, STCW support, and two computer programs: Safe Hull and SafeNet. The ABS Group of Companies is also described, as are numerous publications. ABS is a member of IACS (International Association of Classification Societies).
ANSI - American National Standards Institute

ASTM - American Society for Testing and Materials

IMO was established as the first maritime international organization. It is primarily concerned with pollution from ships.
International Organization for Standardization - ISO
A worldwide federation of national standard bodies of some 100 countries, one from each nation. This non-governmental organization promotes the development of standardization and related activities in the world with a view to facilitate the international exchange of goods and services, and to developing cooperation in the spheres of intellectual, scientific, technological and economic activity. Nippon Kaiji Kyokai

California Maritime Academy
USA | California | Vallejo | The Academy is a four year college offering a variety of degrees and certificates. They offer courses in business administration, mechanical engineering, marine transportation, environmental science, energy conversion, oceanography, and marine engineering technology. The Academy also offers a series of continuing education courses on asbestos training, Haz Woper, environmental health, emergency response, and maritime-related classes. A branch of the Naval Merchant Marine Reserve offers training at the college as well.
Canadian Coast Guard College

Great Lakes Maritime Academy
USA | Michigan | Traverse City | GLMA is the only freshwater academy, with the particular mission of training men and women for U.S. Coast Guard licensed officer positions aboard Great Lakes commercial bulk carriers -- the ore boats which supply the Lakes in support of the regional and national economy.
Maine Maritime Academy

MarineSafety
Marine Safety provides high-technology training to ship operators using simulations, computer-based training, and professional instructors. They maintain four facilities. At King's Point, NY they manage and operate a government maritime research facility training US Merchant Marine Academy cadets and commercial operators. Their Marine Safety Learning Center in Newport, RI trains Navy officers. Marine Safety Rotterdam (MSR) trains maritime officers and provides research and analysis services for the planning and design of ports and channels. Their San Diego facility trains US Navy deck officers.

Naval Research Laboratory - NRL
