Port Debate Highlights Calls for More U.S. Crews on
Ships as Security Measure
Lack of U.S. Crews
on Ships with Sensitive Cargoes, Liquid Natural Gas
(LNG), Draws National Attention in White Paper,
Upcoming Webcast on Maritime TV (www.MaritimeTV.com),
March 16, 2006
As a
community-based Internet TV Channel, Maritime TV has
been instrumental in producing and highlighting video
content that has attracted national attention about
maritime security issues in the past, including the
2004 report that cited the homeland security threat
from the lack of U.S. flag shipping and crew presence
in U.S. ports.
(MSNBC
Feature)
On March 1, Maritime TV released an important white paper prepared by the channel's editorial staff
in response to the current national debate on the
Dubai World U.S. port contract and U.S. port security
in general and the critical homeland security
importance of rebuilding the U.S. flag merchant fleet.
The white paper, "The American Merchant Marine - The
Missing Link in Cargo Security" proposes a new
strategy for restructuring an industry which can
perform a vital role in homeland port security and in
doing so serve as an effective solution to address the
concerns currently being debated relative to the Dubai
World port contract.
On March 10th Maritime TV announced details on a March
16th nation-wide video webcast forum featuring
industry experts on the issue which is scheduled for
exclusive distribution on the Maritime TV Internet TV
Channel (www.MaritimeTV.com)
