Hosted by The Maritime Administration  January 14-16, 2014, U.S. Department of Transportation, Washington D.C.

Selected Plenary Session Presentations and Keynotes Along with Interviews with Key Participants Recorded Daily

The Maritime Administration (MARAD) invited the public, officials and other Marine Transportation System stakeholders to participate in a national maritime strategy symposium from January 14th through January 16th, 2014.  This purpose of this forum is to solicit public views and gather information, insights and experiences to  assist in the development of a National Maritime Strategy.  To allow for a more detailed discussion, this initial meeting will focus on the opportunities and challenges for growing the  U.S.-flagged international fleet.

Maritime Administration

The Maritime Administration promotes the development and maintenance of an adequate, well-balanced United States merchant marine, sufficient to carry the Nation's domestic waterborne commerce and a substantial portion of its waterborne foreign commerce, and capable of service as a naval and military auxiliary in time of war or national emergency. The Maritime Administration also seeks to ensure that the United States maintains adequate shipbuilding and repair services, efficient ports, effective intermodal water and land transportation systems, and reserve shipping capacity for use in time of national emergency.
